Greg Proops only made one reference to his hit TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”.

“You’re probably wondering when the tall guy and the black guy are going to come on.”

Yes, Greg Proops is best known for his part on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, but that was the only reference he made to the show on Saturday.

Anyone who has seen the TV improv show would know what you’re getting with Proops: Fast, whip-smart, faintly-absurdist comedy, with a few swear words.

And he didn’t disappoint at the Sky City Theatre.

One of his greatest skills was the off-the-cuff extended (super-extended) simile that kept going and going beyond what was humanly possible.

New Zealand men and their sartorial elegance (or lack thereof) came in for a withering dissection, which was strange coming from a man in a poorly-ironed three-button suit.

He really got going on the two big news stories of the week – Obama’s birth and Osama’s death (“Black president’s back in town, yo”).

And a bit on Paul McCartney’s ex Heather Mills – giving her the nickname “pogo-Yoko” – drew a massive, partly-shocked, reaction.

It takes a particularly warped mind to point out that while fronting an anti-landmine campaign, she actually has a 50 percent less chance of standing on one than anyone else.

      An excellent show.
